You Are What You Eat
You Are What You Eat, 1992
Art Description
9 archival photographs painted with food products, including soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, curry, espresso, pomegranates, earth from Venice and food coloring, mounted on canvas and framed by Lowy's, New York.
I found this photo of a baby in the flea market and was inspired to paint her with food. The 9 images represent the 9 month birth cycle. I often painted with my food as a child which did not make my family or my elementary school teachers happy. I was curious which foods would fade and which would hold up. This painting is now 30 years old and hardly changed. Moral of the story; Food can be an art material.
