Born on Penghu Island, living and working in Hsinchu City, Taiwan, Chih-Hui Chuang has been a professional artist for over 30 years.

Chuang decodes life in his art and finds that human memory has encoded life in repetition.  In recent years, he has explored the relationship between the external world and the inner mind referring to nature and stars, the mountains and rivers, space, time, and the vortex. Through the gradual blending of hues, the saturation of the color is reduced, making the picture surface moister and allowing subtle changes. Chuang observes social patterns to which humans normally adapt while forgetting the value of their own existence. The memory of self-identification from the collective begins as self-protection but finally devolves into a self-characteristic trait. Thinking and behaving are gradually reduced to a point. We repeat in the trap of memory, the unconscious life and death rotation; time stops in this endless cycle."

Chuang’s works travel in a different time and space. They embrace a complexity reminiscent of 20s European surrealism and cubism intertwined with Buddhist philosophy. Staircases, spirals, and curly lines circle into the distance or float into space. Visual transgressions and complications lead some to think of indigenous masks or fairy tale imaginings.

He has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Paris, and Los Angeles. His work is in both public and private collections.
