Guests from the East in the White Shadows, 2016, Oil on Canvas
The background is Alaska. Viewing from another way, this road is actually a pine tree. No paintings on it, so it became white. The inverted shadows are all kinds of animals. The shadows are normally dark, while the reason to call it white is because it’s a negative space. Where there are sculptures of baby elephants from East India and canopies from China, it is another spatial transformation. Wouldn’t it be so at this moment as well when the artist from East Asia came to Alaska?
