Kerstin A. Roolfs

    Kerstin Roolfs received her Fine Arts degree from the University of Arts in Berlin, Germany, as well as a Masters in Education (Arts in Education) from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is currently based in New York, NY. Roolfs’ work focuses on themes of history and political systems, and the roles people play in shaping the world around them. She frequently incorporates text into her collage-based, using original phrases or seminal texts including Plato’s Symposium or the poems of Goethe. Roolfs also exhibits a fascination with the movement of bodies and faces, and produced an early series of portraits that captured the unique expressions of humans while engaged in sport. Awards include the Promotion of Young Scholars Grant, presented by the city of Berlin, as well as the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) by the German Academic Exchange Service. Her work has been the subject of several solo exhibitions and part of numerous group exhibitions in the U.S., Canada, Russia, and Europe, including two museum exhibitions in Germany.
